WATCH: Aussie Man Punches Kangaroo to Save Dog

How far would you go to protect man's best friend? Would you punch a kangaroo right in the kisser? This man did.

In what has been described as the "most Aussie video" ever, a kangaroo is seen putting a dog in a headlock, and then a man runs up and socks that kanga in the face.

It worked.

Since the video was posted on Dec.

3 and quickly went viral, we've learned the back story to it.

The marsupial puncher, identified as Grieg Tonkins, was on a hunting trip back in June for a friend who was battling cancer.

That friend, unfortunately, passed away last week.

His friends say he would have gotten a kick out of this video going viral.

Meanwhile, Tonkins, described as a "placid bloke," is a zookeeper at Taronga's Western Plains Zoo.

The zoo says it's now working to understand the circumstances of the event and will make sure appropriate action is taken — which leads us to ask you, is it ok to punch a kangaroo in the face if it has your dog in a chokehold? Let us know in the comments.
