Kangaroo spotted in Delphi

IT'S A BABY KANGAROO?""YEAH!"@# 3 CARROLL COUNTY DEPUTIES RECEIVED AN UNUSUAL CALL LAST NIGHT.

AND THAT CALL LED ONE DEPUTY FACE-TO-FACE WITH A KANGAROO.

NEWS 18'S ALEXIS MOBERGER JOINS US NOW WITH HOW A WANDERING ROO MADE HIS WAY BACK HOME SAFELY.

ALEXIS? BRITTANY, AT FIRST, DEPUTIES THOUGHT IT WAS A PRANK CALL.

BUT TURNS OUT, IT WAS FAR FROM IT.

THE KANGAROO WAS SPOTTED JUST OUTSIDE OF DELPHI, NEAR COUNTRY ROAD 400 NORTH.

IT HAS BEEN RETURNED HOME SAFELY TO HIS OWNERS.

BUT IT SURE WAS A SURPRISE TO SOME NEIGHBORS.

#@ IT WAS A CALL DONNA CADWALLADER NEVER THOUGHT SHE WOULD MAKE TO POLICE.

"THIS IS DONNA, AND I GOT A KANGAROO OUT HERE.

""YOU HAVE A WHAT?" BUT IT WAS A CALL SHE MADE MONDAY NIGHT AFTER A VISITOR, HOPPED ONTO HER DRIVEWAY.

"IT'S GOT A BIG LONG TAIL AND IT HOPS.

" "IT'S HOPPING?"SHE REALLY WASN'T SURE THAT I WAS TELLING THE TRUTH OR NOT, CAUSE YOU USUALLY DON'T GET A CALL LIKE – A KANGAROO.

"SHE SAYS IT WAS AROUND MIDNIGHT, WHEN HER DOG TRAPPER STARTED BARKING AT A FLUFFY SHADOW OUTSIDE HER HOME.

WHEN SHE WENT TO HER DRIVEWAY, TO SEE WHAT ALL THE COMMOTION WAS ABOUT.

"TOTAL SHOCK.

CAUSE WOULD YOU THINK ABOUT SEEING A KANGAROO OUT HERE.

I MEAN THAT'S RARE.

"SHE SAYS THAT'S WHEN SHE KNEW SHE NEEDED TO CALL FOR HELP.

DISPATCHER""I DO HAVE AN OFFICER IN ROUTE THAT WAY.

"DEPUTY SHERIFF DARRON GIANCOLA OVERHEARD THE DISPATCHER'S CONVERSATION WITH CADWALLADER.

AND WAS AT HER DOOR IN SECONDS.

GIANCOLA:"A WHAT IN HER YARD? AND I WAS READY TO GO SEE THIS THING.

" AND WAS A LITTLE EXCITED TO MEET THE UNUSUAL GUEST.

GIANCOLA:"I WALKED RIGHT UP TO HIM AND HELD OUT MY HAND AND HE CAME UP AND KIND OF HUGGED ONTO MY ARM AND CHEWED ON MY GLOVES.

"CADWALLADER:"I WAS TRYING TO KEEP IT CLOSE SO IT WON'T RUN AWAY BECAUSE I KNEW IT SOMEONE'S- IT HAD TO BE SOMEONE'S BABY.

"AND IT SURE WAS.

OFFICERS SAY THE ROO BELONGED TO A NEIGHBOR, AND WAS RETURNED HOME SAFE AND SOUND.

"IT WAS ENJOYABLE TO HAVE A CALL THAT MADE ME AND OTHER OFFICERS LAUGH AND DISPATCHERS LAUGH, SOMETHING INTERESTING LIKE THAT FOR US TO SEE IS NOT SOMETHING YOU HAVE EVERYDAY.

"AND IT'S AN EXPERIENCE CADWALLADER WILL NEVER FORGET.

"AUSTRALIA HAS KANGAROOS.

THIS IS NOT AUSTRALIA.

"@# WE TRIED REACHING OUT TO THE KANGAROO'S OWNERS, BUT THEY DIDN'T WANT TO DO AN ON-CAMERA INTERVIEW.

AND IN CASE YOU WERE CURIOUS.

OWNING EXOTIC ANIMAL LIKE A KANGAROO IS LEGAL IN INDIANA WITH A PERMIT.
